Pintology is, without question, my favourite non-taproom “bar” bar in all of the sprawling Megalopolis that is Tokyo. It’s the place I recommend to others most often, especially visitors to Japan who happen to be staying in the Shinjuku area, because Pintology is only a train stop away (at Sasazuka Station on either the Keio or New Keio Lines; the former being one of the closet to my home, technically making it a local 😉).

But the reason why Pintology sits atop my list of preferred places to visit is it embodies the best qualities that I crave from a venue whenever I’m out on the town in the mood to imbibe: a comfortable space with a befitting ambience and a well-curated collection of drinks. Whether it be a sunny afternoon or pishing down rainy evening, I have never experienced anything there but good vibes, good music, and good conversation (often with complete strangers). Did I mention the retro videos or video games playing in the background? Aye, Pintology’s got that covered, too.

Opened in the summer of 2022, Pintology is owned and run by the wonderfully welcoming dynamic duo of Kyle and Yuki Broyles. They offer 12-taps of regularly rotating domestic and imported craft beers, bottles of choice whisky, and a fridge filled with more beers and ciders (take away okay). Snacks are also available, and if eating while drinking is your thing then I suggest you check out their Instagram account for announcements of their periodic monthly pop-up collaboration events with restaurant and food creator friends.

Speaking of events, the one you absolutely shouldn’t miss is their BAD HEAD night. Usually occurring the last Thursday of the month, Pintology’s BAD HEAD is ground zero for some of the nation’s most original analog synthesizing, vinyl spinning, DJ DJ’ing noise and nostalgia. For the sake of transparency, yours truLee is a semi-regular contributor of said clamour and cacophany, and it really is the cat’s whiskers dog’s bollocks and gnat’s knuckles of evening’s to behold.
